Eating Out in Newent

Marinades Restaurant is not an exclusively veggie or vegan restaurant, but they certainly seem more aware of vegan (and other) diets than many restaurants.

STOP PRESS: Marinades has now closed in Newent, due to a relocation to Cheltenham, open from 26th August 2008

They had thew following to say:

Starters

Callaloo Soup and Sauteed Plantain are both Vegan.
Mushrooms and Tomatoes and Garlic Potatoes are easily made vegan on request.
On the daily specials we always have one or two other Vegan starter options.

Mains

Yam Bubble & Squeak is completely vegan – as are main course accompaniments (Rice and Peas, Vegetables, Potatoes)
On daily specials we always have 2 or 3 further vegan choices

Desserts

We have home-made sweet potato pudding which is vegan
We stock mango and passion fruit sorbets (both vegan)
We stock Swedish Glace Soya Icecream (vegan)
We stock Alpro cream substitute (vegan)

General

We stock Alpro Soya Milk
We use “Pure” Sunflower spread in place of butter for Veggie Recipes

Although we are not a vegan or a celiac restaurant we do take special diets seriously and treat them with respect. We don’t insist on the usual nonsense that many places ask that special diets give 24 hrs notice! No notice is needed at Marinades, just turn up, let us know your requirements and we will advise accordingly – you don’t even need a separate menu.


Please also watch out over the next few months as we are in the midst of planning a move for the restaurant from Newent to Cheltenham over the Summer – you may need to update the details on your site!
